Midway through a five-game road trip, the Golden State Warriors (21-25, 8-12 away, 22-23-1 ATS) travel to the Barclays Center on Monday night for a date with the Brooklyn Nets (20-28, 12-13 home, 23-23-2 ATS) at 7:40 pm ET.
Brooklyn won its third game in its past four on Saturday, demolishing a Joel Embiid-less 76ers team 136-121, and the Nets are slight favorites to make it four out of five on Monday night.

Both teams are in precarious positions when it comes to the NBA playoff bracket. The Nets are 1.5 games behind the Atlanta Hawks for 10th in the East. The Warriors are 1.5 games behind the Utah Jazz for 10th in the West, with the Houston Rockets in between.
Golden State Lets One Slip Away at Atlanta
After starting their current road trip with a 121-101 win over the flailing Grizzlies, the Warriors fell 141-134 in OT to the Hawks on Saturday despite a 60-point performance from Steph Curry. The Dubs held a two-point lead with just four seconds remaining but couldn’t get the stop they needed to secure the win and then went cold in the extra frame.
Since getting Draymond Green back from suspension, the Warriors have looked better but are still just 3-4 in that span. Their last three losses include a one-point setback to the Kings (134-133 home) and a one-point double-OT loss to the Lakers (145-144 2OT) in addition to the OT loss in Atlanta last time out.
While Golden State remains four games under .500, they actually have a slightly positive point differential (+0.2) unlike the trio of teams that occupies the #8, 9, and 10 seeds in the West (Mavericks, Lakers, Jazz).

Have Nets Turned a Corner?
In what’s been an almost exclusively disappointing season, the Nets enter Monday night on a relatively good run. As mentioned, Brooklyn thrashed the Sixers last time out (136-121 away) for their third win in four tries. They also beat the Rockets (106-104 home) and Jazz (147-117 home) in that span, while dropping a game to the Suns (136-120 home).
Cam Thomas (21.7 PPG, 2.4 AGP) was electric against the Sixers with 40 points on 14-of-26 shooting plus five assists. While Mikal Bridges (21.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 3.7 APG) hasn’t ascended to the superstar status many were hoping, Thomas’ offensive contributions have helped keep the Nets’ offense respectable.
Brooklyn currently sits 16th in Offensive Rating (115.5) but just 18th in D-Rating (116.2) and 18th in Net Rating as a result (-0.8).
Concerningly for Nets fans, the team is playing .500 basketball against Eastern Conference opponents (14-14) but is a dismal 6-14 against teams from the West. Golden State is 9-6 against Eastern Conference teams.

Curry has the highest point total on the board at 29.5 O/U. While he’s only averaging 28. 1 PPG this season, he comes into Monday blazingly hot. Not only did he drop 60 last time out, he’s scored at least 33 in four of his past five games, including a 46-point performance. Curry only had 20 against Memphis on Friday, but he also only played 32 minutes in a game the Warriors led by double-digits at halftime.
Nic Claxton has a massive 11.5 rebound over/under in Monday’s NBA player props. Claxton is averaging 10.5 per game, but Brooklyn will be missing Ben Simmons (10.3 RPG, 7.0 APG) from Monday’s NBA lineups, meaning Claxton will be asked for shoulder even more of the rebounding load than usual.
Warriors vs Nets Prediction
At some point, the Warriors’ terrible luck is going to regress to the mean (i.e. they aren’t going to end up on the wrong side of every close game). The analytics indicate Golden State is the better team, as does the eye test. With Simmons (back) out, along with Dorian Finney-Smith (ankle), the Nets are likely to find themselves on the wrong end of the rebounding battle against a Warriors team that ranks third in the league in rebound percentage (51.8%).
